Michel Gondry to direct The Green Hornet?

When I read this story today on FilmJunk I passed it of as just another wild rumor, but apparently it's almost fact. According to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter Michel Gondry is on the verge of becoming the director of Seth Rogen's "The Green Hornet". This makes me way more excited than the old Stephen Chow news. I loved Be Kind Rewind and I can't wait to see what abstract hilarity is going to bring to the project with Seth Rogen in tow. This movie is now very anticipated for me.

Nugent Smoothie Podcast #1

In my first Nugent Smoothie podcast I talk about Coraline and Pirated Oscar Screeners. Music: Jon Brion-Knock Yourself Out and Queen-Your my Best Friend.

Frost/Nixon

Since I wanted to catch up on some of the oscar nominated flicks this year I decided to steep down to the lowest level to do it, I pirated them(except for Benjamin Button, thats to cinematic for me to do that, the cinematography is to beautiful). Tonight I watched one of the most debated nominees, Frost/Nixon, and I really enjoyed it. One thing I didn't expect from the movie was a sort of mockumentary format throughout the film, there are various interviews with characters that are used to move along the plot, and while some people may see that as a weakness, I really enjoyed it. There was also alot of humor throughout that I enjoyed because I expected it to be alot more serious. The end of the movie is awesome and powerful as well. Frank Langella was also very good as Nixon, like Josh Brolin in last years W., he did more than an impersonation, and showed off the human element in the man. Overall, even though it may not deserve Best Picture, I really liked Frost/Nixon and I highly recommend it.

Funny People Trailer

The first trailer for Judd Apatow's Funny People has finally arrived, and in my opinion, it's looking great. Adam Sandler plays George Simmons, a comedian who finds out he is dying, and while Sandler looks alright in this movie, it's Seth Rogen who looks the best. I'm glad he's willing to step back into a smaller role, and is it just me or has he lost weight. Another actor who looks awesome in this is Jason Schwartzman who i'm a big fan of. Funny People premieres July 31st, check out the trailer below.

R.I.P Tori

Tori was the new puppy we got so my other dog Toby would have company. She was probably the cutest puppy i've ever seen, but she was born with a birth defect and last sunday we had to put her to sleep. We only got to know her for a week but I know I won't soon forget her. R.I.P Tori.

Pineapple Express

Today I watched  Pineapple Express and I thought it was a lot of fun, but I was a little let down by it. The only reason I was let down by it was because when I saw the original trailer it completely blew my mind, that plus the fact that David Gordon Green was involved, so I expected something amazing. But Pineapple Express was not what I was expecting. It really is more of a tribute to Comedies of the 80's like See No Evil, Hear No Evil. But nonetheless I still enjoyed it, especially the big action blow out at the end of the movie. One actor who I really enjoyed was Danny McBride, who has been in a lot of mainstream Apatow comedies lately, but is also a David Gordon Green protege. He co-stared  in Green's early film All The Real Girls and plays Red in this. Even though Pineapple Express didn't completely meet my expectations, I still enjoyed it, and I recommend you go out and see it.

Observe and Report Trailer

I was very excited about this years Mall Cop movies, and so far Paul Blart dosen't look that great(although I still want to see it) but this one is a whole different story. I haven't been this excited about a movie since (ironically) Pineapple Express which also had an awesome trailer. It seems that Danny McBride's crew is taking over the Apatow genre of Comedy. McBride's first two movies were directed by David Gordon Green(Pineapple Express) and Jody Hill who is directing this and also directed The Foot Fist Way. Be forewarned the attached trailer is Red Band so don't go crying to me that you were offended.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Being sick, I had time to sit down and watch a movie, so I watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Overall I found the movie enjoyable, it wasn't really anything we haven't seen before, but still enjoyable. I thought Russell Brand was the best part. I love that man and wish him a long career.

Land of the Lost Super Bowl Teaser

I wasn't expecting much from this movie before but now i'm very excited. I'm a big fan of Will Ferrell, the visuals are awesome, and I think Brad Silberling has a real knack for these kinds of movies. I loved A Series of Unfortunate Events. But I don't think I'll be checking out the original show though, (looks cheesy as hell).
